Mummy Pretzels
Salty-sweet pretzel rods dipped in silky white chocolate and drizzled into “bandages,” finished with candy eyes. No baking—perfect for parties and treat bags.
Ingredients
- 12 pretzel rods
- 2 cups white chocolate or white candy melts (about 12 oz)
- Candy eyes (24 pieces)
- Optional: 1–2 tsp neutral oil or coconut oil to thin coating; black gel for extra “pupil” detail
Candy melts are the easiest (no tempering). If using real white chocolate, see the tempering tip below so the coating sets firm and glossy.
Directions
- Prep trays: Line 2 baking sheets with parchment. Pour candy eyes into a small bowl so they’re ready to grab.
- Melt coating: Place the white chocolate/candy melts in a microwave-safe cup or tall jar. Microwave at 50% power in 30-second bursts, stirring each time, until smooth. If thick, stir in ½–1 tsp oil to loosen.
- Dip: Working one at a time, dip each pretzel rod about ¾ of the way, scraping the bottom edge on the cup’s rim and softly tapping to remove excess. Lay on prepared sheets, spacing slightly.
- Bandage drizzle: Spoon remaining coating into a small zip-top bag or piping bag; snip a tiny corner. Drizzle back-and-forth zigzags over each pretzel to look like bandages, leaving a small “gap” for the face.
- Add eyes: While the drizzle is still tacky, press two candy eyes into the gap. Repeat for all pretzels.
- Set & serve: Let stand at room temp 20–30 minutes (or 5–10 minutes in the fridge) until completely set. Peel from parchment and serve.
Tempering tip (real chocolate): Melt 2/3 of the chocolate, then off heat stir in the remaining 1/3 (finely chopped) until smooth and 84–86°F; warm 5–10 seconds if needed. This helps it set snappy, even at room temp.
Variations
- Colored mummies: Tint candy melts orange, green, or purple for a fun twist.
- Crunch: Sprinkle a little crushed cookie “dust” before the drizzle sets.
- Mini size: Use mini pretzel sticks for bite-size treats; reduce dip time and set on racks.
Storage
- Keep in an airtight container at cool room temp up to 1 week.
- Layer with parchment to prevent scuffs if packing into treat bags.
