Mix Ingredients

  • 4 cups quick oats (not steel cut)
  • ½ cup powdered milk (or coconut milk powder for dairy-free)
  • ½ cup light brown sugar or maple sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp fine sea salt
Instant texture trick: Pulse 2 cups of the oats in a blender/processor 8–10 times until coarsely ground. Stir back into the remaining oats with the other ingredients— this mimics packet-style creaminess.

Optional pantry add-ins (to the jar)

  • ¼ cup chia seeds or flax meal
  • 1–2 Tbsp vanilla powder
  • ½–1 cup freeze-dried fruit pieces (strawberries, apples, bananas)
Jar Label:For 1 bowl: ½ cup mix + ⅔–¾ cup boiling water or hot milk. Stir, cover 2–3 min. Sweeten to taste. Microwave: same ratios, heat 60–90 sec.”

Make & Serve

  1. Combine mix: Grind half the oats (see tip), then whisk with remaining oats, powdered milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until evenly blended. Store airtight.
  2. For one serving: Add ½ cup mix to a bowl. Pour in ⅔–¾ cup boiling water or hot milk (more for thinner, less for thicker). Stir, cover, and rest 2–3 minutes.
  3. Microwave method: Stir ½ cup mix with ⅔ cup water/milk in a deep bowl. Microwave 60–90 seconds, stirring once, then rest 1 minute.
  4. Finish: Add fruit, nuts, seeds, nut butter, or a drizzle of maple/honey to taste.
Packet prep: Scoop ½ cup mix into snack bags for grab-and-go servings. Keep a small note: “Add ⅔–¾ cup hot water.”

Flavor Ideas, Tips & Storage

  • Apple Cinnamon: Stir in 1 cup chopped freeze-dried apples + extra ½ tsp cinnamon.
  • Maple Pecan: Use maple sugar; top bowls with toasted pecans and a touch of butter.
  • Strawberries & Cream: Freeze-dried strawberries + 1–2 Tbsp vanilla powder.
  • Peanut Butter Cup: For each bowl, add 1 Tbsp peanut butter and 2 tsp cocoa.
  • Pumpkin Spice: Add 1 tsp pumpkin spice to the jar; top bowls with pumpkin puree & maple.
  • Gluten-free: Use certified GF oats.
  • Less sugar: Cut jar sugar to ¼ cup and sweeten bowls to taste; or replace with monk fruit blend.
