Cauldron Root Beer

Cauldron Root Beer
Classic root beer floats served in a “cauldron” with dramatic, witchy fog. Fun, fast, and party-perfect!
Ingredients
- 4 cups root beer, well-chilled
- 1 cup vanilla ice cream (4 big scoops)
- Dry ice, optional for fog (presentation only—do not ingest)
- Props: food-safe cauldron or black bowl; second larger bowl if using the “outer fog” method
Why it smokes: Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide (about −78.5°C). It sublimates—turns straight from solid to gas—cooling the air and forming low-lying, misty clouds when it condenses water vapor. It’s for looks only.
Directions
- Set the cauldron: Place your decorative cauldron/bowl on a tray. If using fog, see the “Safe Fog Setup” below first.
- Pour & float: Add the root beer to the cauldron. Top with big scoops of vanilla ice cream for froth.
- Fog (optional): Add dry ice as directed in the Safe Fog Setup so mist swirls around the cauldron while you serve.
- Serve immediately with cups and a ladle. Keep extra soda and ice cream nearby to refresh the bubbles.
Tip: Chilled soda foams less violently and gives you prettier, longer-lasting head on the “brew.”
Safe Fog Setup (No Dry Ice in Drinks)
- Set the cauldron inside a larger bowl. Fill the outer bowl halfway with warm water.
- Using gloves/tongs, drop 1–2″ chunks of dry ice into the warm-water outer bowl only. Mist forms instantly and spills around the cauldron.
- Never put dry ice into the root beer or serving cups. Keep pieces out of reach of kids and pets.
- Add more warm water and dry-ice pieces every 10–15 minutes to refresh the fog. Do not seal in a container.
Variations
- Witch’s Brew Float: Use orange soda and vanilla ice cream; add gummy worms to cups.
- Black Cat Float: Use cola, chocolate ice cream, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
- Spice It: Add a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon to the ice cream for “autumn” vibes.
Storage
- Best served fresh. Keep extra soda on ice and ice cream frozen until refilling.
