Cauldron Bubble Tea
Cauldron Bubble Tea
Creamy purple milk tea with chewy black tapioca pearls and candy “eyeballs” bobbing on top—fun, fully non-alcoholic, and perfect for Halloween parties or a movie night marathon.
Ingredients
- Milk-tea base (2 cups): 1 cup strong black tea (or decaf), cooled + 1 cup milk (whole, oat, or almond) + 2–3 Tbsp sugar or simple syrup
- ½ cup black tapioca pearls (dry), cooked per package
- 2–3 drops purple gel color or ½ tsp ube extract (optional for color)
- Candy eyeballs for garnish
- Optional: ice, and 2 Tbsp brown sugar syrup or honey to coat the pearls
Dairy-free: use oat or almond milk. For extra vanilla-shake vibes, add ½ tsp vanilla.
Directions
- Brew & mix: Steep black tea in 1 cup hot water for 5 minutes; cool. Stir with milk and sugar to make 2 cups milk-tea base. Tint purple with gel color or ube extract.
- Cook boba: Boil tapioca pearls according to package (usually 5–7 minutes simmer + rest). Drain and toss with a little brown-sugar syrup so they stay glossy.
- Assemble: Divide boba among 4 glasses. Add ice if you like. Pour milk tea over the pearls.
- Spooky finish: Float candy eyeballs on top. (Trick: perch them on mini marshmallows or a small spoon of whipped cream so they bob on the surface.) Serve right away.
Party tip: Keep extras of milk tea and boba separate on the snack table so guests can build their own. Pearls are best within 3–4 hours at room temp—don’t refrigerate or they firm up.
Variations
- Witch’s Ube: Use 1–2 tsp ube powder or ½–1 tsp ube extract for natural purple and a gentle coconut-vanilla flavor.
- Pumpkin Patch Boba: Swap in pumpkin-spice milk (pumpkin + milk + maple + spice) and top with cinnamon dust.
- Black Cocoa: Stir 1 tsp black cocoa into the milk for ultra-inky “cauldron” tea; sweeten to taste.
- Green Monster: Use matcha milk (1 tsp matcha whisked with 1 cup milk) for an eerie green version.
Make-Ahead & Safety
- Milk-tea base keeps 2 days chilled; stir before using.
- Cook pearls the day of the party. If needed, hold them in warm syrup and refresh with hot water for 30 seconds before serving.
- Dry-ice fog looks great in a separate display cauldron. Never add solid dry ice to individual cups and never ingest.
