Jar of homemade hot chocolate mix layered with marshmallows beside a cozy mug
Prep: 10 min Yield: ~2 cups mix (8–10 servings) Storage: up to 3 months airtight

Ingredients

  • 1 cup nonfat dry milk powder (≈90 g)
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (≈45 g)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (≈60 g)
  • ¼ tsp fine sea salt
  • Optional: 1–2 tsp cornstarch for extra silky cocoa

Directions

  1. Mix. Whisk dry milk, cocoa, powdered sugar, salt (and cornstarch if using) until uniform. Break up any lumps. For super-fine texture, pulse in a food processor 10–15 seconds.
  2. Jar. Transfer to a clean, dry, airtight jar. Label with serving directions.
  3. Serve. For each mug, whisk 3 Tbsp mix into 1 cup hot milk (or water) until smooth. Adjust sweetness to taste.

Gift it: Layer with mini marshmallows and tie on a tag: “Mix 3 Tbsp with 1 cup hot milk or water.”
