A fizzy, fruit-forward refresher with juicy blueberries, fresh ginger heat, and bright lemon—finished with icy bubbles.

Blueberry ginger sparkler mocktail over ice with blueberries and mint

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup (about 50 g) fresh blueberries, plus extra to garnish
  • 1/2 tsp finely grated fresh ginger (peeled)
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1–2 tsp maple syrup or simple syrup, to taste
  • 4–5 oz (120–150 ml) chilled sparkling water (or club soda)
  • Ice (crushed or cubes)
  • Optional garnish: mint sprig or lemon wheel
Simple syrup: Heat equal parts sugar and water until dissolved; cool. For extra zing, steep a few ginger slices while warm, then strain.

Directions

  1. Add blueberries and grated ginger to a shaker or sturdy glass. Muddle until the berries release lots of juice and the ginger is fragrant.
  2. Add lemon juice and 1 tsp sweetener. Fill with ice and shake 10–12 seconds (or stir well).
  3. Fine-strain into an ice-filled tall glass (optional for fewer seeds). Top with sparkling water and gently stir. Taste and add the remaining 1 tsp syrup if you prefer it sweeter.
  4. Garnish with a few blueberries and a mint sprig or lemon wheel. Serve immediately while bubbly.

Flavor profile: Fruity and bright with a light ginger tingle and a crisp, sparkling finish.

Pitcher Version (Serves 6)

  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp finely grated fresh ginger
  • 6 Tbsp (90 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3–1/2 cup simple syrup, to taste
  • 3–4 cups chilled sparkling water
  • Ice, blueberries & lemon wheels to garnish
  1. Muddle blueberries and ginger in a large pitcher (or pulse in a blender, then fine-strain for a clearer drink).
  2. Stir in lemon juice and syrup. Chill until serving.
  3. Right before pouring, add ice and sparkling water. Stir gently and garnish glasses.

Tips, Swaps & Variations

  • Frozen blueberries: Thaw first (or microwave 10–15 sec) for easier muddling.
  • Lime twist: Swap lemon for lime for a softer, mojito-like vibe.
  • Ginger soda: Use ginger beer or ginger ale instead of sparkling water for extra spice/sweetness.
  • Herbal notes: Clap a mint or basil sprig between your hands to release aroma, then garnish.
  • No muddling: Make a quick blueberry-ginger syrup: Simmer 1/2 cup blueberries + 1/2 cup water + 1/4 cup sugar + 4–5 thin ginger slices for 5 minutes; strain and chill. Use 1 oz syrup + lemon + sparkling water per drink.
  • Lower sugar: Skip syrup and rely on ripe berries; add a splash of diet ginger ale if you want sweetness without calories.

Make-Ahead & Storage

Muddle base (berries, ginger, lemon, sweetener) up to 4 hours ahead and keep chilled. Add ice and sparkling water just before serving to keep the bubbles lively. Any leftover berry base keeps 24 hours refrigerated; stir before using.
